In recent years there has been a shift in ownership of timberland. What used to be owned by individual families or timber companies is now being owned by pension funds, university endowments, and high net worth individuals. Many are buying these historically long-term stable investments through the vehicles of TREIT's (timber REIT's) or TIMO's (timberland investment management organizations)
